What is the EB-1 Visa Category?
The EB-1 (Employment-Based First Preference) visa category is reserved for the world's most accomplished professionals — those who have risen to the very top of their field. It offers one of the fastest routes to US permanent residency and, for EB-1A, requires no employer sponsorship.
The EB-1 category includes three distinct subcategories, each targeting a different type of exceptional professional achievement. All share the common thread of requiring substantial, documented evidence of extraordinary accomplishment.
Extraordinary Ability
For individuals who possess extraordinary ability in sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics — demonstrated by sustained national or international acclaim. No employer sponsor needed.
Outstanding Researcher / Professor
For internationally recognized outstanding researchers with at least 3 years of experience in their field. Requires a permanent job offer from a US employer (university, research institution, or private employer with a research department).
Multinational Manager / Executive
For managers and executives of multinational companies who have been employed abroad in a managerial or executive capacity for at least 1 of the past 3 years.
